Zachary R. Chaney

Zachary R. Chaney, 20, of Strasburg passed away unexpectedly at his home on Sunday, May 7, 2023.

Zach was born on October 5, 2002 in Dover and was the son of Steve and Stephanie Booth Chaney of Strasburg. He is also survived by his sister, Courtney Chaney (companion, Joe Horstmann) of Mason, Ohio; grandparents, Connie Chaney of Strasburg, John (Kim) Booth of Leesville; uncles, Scott Booth of Dellroy, Brian Chaney of North Carolina, Chris (Kelly) Chaney of Carrollton; cousins, Lilly and Ethan Booth and John Chaney. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Russ Chaney; and his aunt, Donna Rainsberg.

Zach was a 2021 graduate of Strasburg High School where he was a standout football player, earning a letter all four of his high school seasons. He was currently attending Walsh University in Canton and was a member of their football team as well. Zach was an incredibly hard worker, always lifting weights and getting ready for the next season; his dad built a home weight room, and Zach could always be found there working out by himself, or with his friends. He was a leader, and took great pride in helping his teammates, especially the underclassmen, improve their game. Off the field, Zach had a great sense of humor, loved to make people laugh, and was known for his infectious big smile. He also enjoyed playing video games and was a volunteer at the Strasburg United Methodist Church Food Pantry.

Cremation has been entrusted to the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory at Strasburg. A celebration of Zach’s life will be held on Saturday, June 24th in the Strasburg Franklin Park, Pavilion 3 starting at 11:00 am with Pastor Jason Rissler officiating. The family will be greeting friends at the park on Saturday from 10:00 am to 11:00 am.
