William F. "Bill" Zeigler, a distinguished member of his community and a respected local business owner, passed away on January 25, 2025, in New Philadelphia, Ohio. He was born on May 25, 1935, in Dover, Ohio. He was the son of the late Jacob and Helen (Flaim) Zeigler.
Bill was married to his beloved wife, Wanda (Renicker) Zeigler for 65 years before she preceded him in death on February 9, 2022. He was also preceded in death by four brothers; Lester, Nelson, George, and Dale Zeigler; four sisters, Gladys Harper, Alice Lindeman, Stella Smith, and Mary Medley; his son-in-laws, Paul Frey, and Paul Noel; along with his grandson, Eric Zeigler.
Bill retired as the owner and operator of Automated Equipment Company in Newcomerstown, Ohio, a venture that showcased his entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to excellence. He also dedicated 25 years of his career to McKnight Trucking, where he was valued for his hard work and professionalism.
A proud veteran, he honorably served in the United States Army from 1954 to 1956. His military service instilled in him a strong sense of duty and community that resonated throughout his life.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Bill was actively engaged in local affairs, demonstrating his passion for the community. He served on the Goshen Township School Board and as a member of the City Council in Midvale, leaving a lasting impact on the lives of those around him. Bill was well-known for buying the first plate at the annual Dover Canal Days Festival. He was a supporter of 4-H, and helped start the diesel program at Buckeye Career Center.
He will be sadly missed by his children; Floyd (Debby) Zeigler of Midvale, Brenda Frey Midvale, Stella Noel of Bolivar, and Shelly (Bob) Hensel of Tappan Lake; along with nine grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren, along with many nieces and nephews.
Bill’s family would like to thank his nurse’s aide, Carli, for the incredible care he received under her care.
A celebration of Bill’s life will be held at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover on Saturday, February 1, 2025 at 12:00 pm with Pastor Dan Parsons officiating. William will be placed in the Mausoleum at Dover Burial Park next to Wanda. The New Philadelphia VFW will conduct a military service.
