Walter E. Muster, 95, of Dover died Thursday, January 15, 2015 in the New Dawn Retirement Center at Dover.

Born July 29, 1919 in the Gensa Bottom Cheese House near Walnut Creek he was a son of the late Gottfried and Louisa Schweingruber Muster who immigrated to the United States from Switzerland. Walter married Sara Louise Mathey on July 22, 1945 and was happily married for 53 years until her passing on April 22, 1999. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Jennie Louise Muster; sister, Martha Murray and his beloved cat, Fuzzy

Walter was an Army veteran of WW II having served in the South Pacific with the Field Artillery A-Battery 136. Following his service, he worked at Dover Tank and Plate and Finzer Brothers Brick in Sugarcreek and finally retired from Norfolk and Western Railroad in Brewster after 30 years of service as a Conductor and Brakeman. He was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ in Dover, Brandywine Grange, Sugarcreek Chapter of the Ohio Archeological Society, Dover VFW, United Transportation Union #693 and the Boiler Makers Union Local #744 in Cleveland. Walter loved the outdoors, especially looking for arrowheads, hunting and fishing.

Walter is survived by his daughter, Linda Muster of Dover; brother, Eugene (Lois) Muster of Gnadenhutten; sister, Edith McDonald of Chicago and his cats, Big Whitey and Katzy

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 21 at 11:00 am in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory at Dover with Rev. Dr. Bob Buckley officiating. Interment will be at the Dover Burial Park where the Dover VFW will conduct military graveside services. Following the burial a luncheon will be held in the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center. Friends can call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 1-3 and 5-7 pm.
