Thomas L. "Tom" Watkins

Thomas L. "Tom" Watkins, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully at his home in Dover, Ohio on September 13, 2023. Born on November 3, 1940, in New Philadelphia, Ohio, Tom lived a life filled with love, laughter, and dedication.

Tom was a hardworking man who found fulfillment in his career. He spent eleven years at Dover Tank and Plate before retiring. Prior to that, he dedicated 21 years of his life to Dover Conveyor. Tom's commitment and strong work ethic were evident in everything he did.

Not only was Tom dedicated to his work, but he also proudly served our country in the United States Army National Guard. His time spent in the military was a testament to his selflessness and devotion to protecting others.

Tom lived his life to serve others and he was a true inspiration to everyone he met. He had never met a stranger.   He was a lay minister at the First Church of the Nazarene in New Philadelphia, Sugarcreek Free Methodist, which is now NewPointe Community Church, and most recently, Tabor Ridge Community Church in Mineral City.  He also was proud of his mission trip to Jamaica and working in Jail Ministries.

Outside of work and military service, Tom indulged in various hobbies and interests. He loved tinkering with cars and enjoyed spending time under the hood of his own vehicle. In addition to his mechanical aptitude, Tom had a creative side. He took pleasure in writing poetry that resonated with those who had the privilege of reading it. And if that wasn't enough talent for one person, he also played the harmonica skillfully.

On his final day surrounded by his loving family, Tom peacefully passed away. He leaves behind a legacy of love and warmth that will forever be cherished by those who knew him best.

Thomas L. Watkins is survived by his devoted wife of almost 63 years,  Donna Sineff Watkins; their children Johnna Mann and her husband Kevin Mann, Jeff Watkins and his wife Donna Watkins, Carol McRobie and her husband John McRobie, Tanna Grandison and her husband Chuck Grandison; siblings David Watkins and his wife Annette Watkins, Richard Watkins and his wife Dreama Watkins, Jim Watkins; Sandy Connerly and her husband Larry Connerly, Diane McNutt and her husband Randy McNutt; eleven grandchildren, Duane Mann, Melissa (Matt Moore) Mann, Breanna Watkins, Shania (Caleb) Watkins, Sarah (Zach) Gwyer, Nathanael (Megan) McRobie, Jonathan McRobie, Justan (Kayla) Grandison, Wesley (Paige) Grandison, Kara (Brennan) Barker, Tara (Eric) Grandison, along with 22 great-grandchildren.

He is predeceased by his father; William Watkins and mother Hazel Rothacher Watkins; his sisters; Etta Green,  Patty Skinner, Barbara Watkins; his brothers, Fred Watkins, and Ray Watkins.

Tom's memory will forever live on in the hearts of his family and friends. His kind spirit, infectious laughter, and unwavering love will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing him.
