Thomas Eugene Rothacher

Thomas Eugene Rothacher, known to his family as Tom, passed away suddenly at home in Dover, Ohio on December 31, 2023. He was born on December 6, 1951, in Dover, Ohio.  He was the son of the late Dale Edward and Phyllis Jean (Swisshelm) Rothacher. 

In his younger years, he worked as a truck driver before transitioning into construction work. Regrettably, as his health began to decline, Tom had to retire from his esteemed career.

He graduated from Dover High School with the class of 1970.  Tom's sense of duty led him to become a proud member of the United States Army. Through his military service, he demonstrated unwavering loyalty towards his country. 

He nurtured a passionate love for sports and constantly cheered on local teams such as the Cleveland Indians, Cleveland Browns, Ohio State Buckeyes, and the Dover Tornadoes. His enthusiasm was infectious as he followed their triumphs and setbacks with unwavering loyalty.

One of Tom's proudest accomplishments was achieved during his time playing Little League baseball. For many years, he held the record for strikeouts.

Tom’s family was very important to him.  He leaves behind his two children; Tom Rothacher II and Leann Heath both of of Leesville, Ohio; his grandchildren, Tom Rothacher Jr., Tayor Martin, Katie Rothacher, Cierra White, Logan White, Aislyn Heath; four brothers, Dave (Vickie) Rothacher, Rod (Susie) Rothacher, Jeff (Kathi) Rothacher, Jim (Lisa) Rothacher; his sister, Debbie (John) Petrella; two sisters in -law, Bessie Herschler and Sally Baker; along with many nieces and nephews.  

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Charles Baker and Greg Rothacher.  

In honoring Tom's wishes, cremation has been entrusted to the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover.  A graveside service will be held at a later date with an inurnment at Dover Burial Park.  To sign an online guestbook for Tom, visit the obituary link on the funeral home's website.
