Susan M. Murtaugh

Susan M. Murtaugh, 68, of Dover, passed away at her home, surrounded by her loving family, on Tuesday, May 5, 2026 following a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

Born on March 7, 1958, in Dover, she was a daughter of the late Paul and Dolores Contini Hayes. She was also preceded in death by her former husband, Dan Murtaugh.

Susan graduated from Dover High School in 1976 and earned a bachelor’s degree in Finance from the University of Akron in 1980. She worked as a Bank Examiner for the State of Ohio until her retirement in 2010. After retiring, she worked as a bartender at Hoodletown Brewing Company in Dover until her health no longer allowed. A longtime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Dover, Susan was also an avid sports fan. She rarely missed her daughter’s softball games through high school and college, regardless of the distance, and was a dedicated follower of the Cleveland Guardians.

She is survived by her daughter, Danni (Michael) Hayden of North Canton; brother, Dr. John (Sandra) Hayes of Florida; sister, Paula Casto of Texas; grandchildren, Lyla and Phoebe Hayden, and one grandchild expected later this year; her companion, Jim Miller of Strasburg; and many nieces and nephews.

Cremation has been entrusted to the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory at Dover. A memorial Mass will be held on Wednesday, May 13th at 11:00 a.m. in St. Joseph Catholic Church at Dover with Fr. Jimmy Hatfield officiating. Interment of the ashes will be in the St. Joseph Calvary Cemetery, Dover. Following the interment, there will be a gathering at Hoodletown Brewing. There are no calling hours.
