Susan Elaine "Sue" Destefani

Susan Elaine (Sue) Destefani, 67, of New Philadelphia passed away suddenly Tuesday, October 16, 2023 just weeks short of her 68th birthday.

Born at Union Hospital in Dover on November 3, 1955, Susan grew up in New Philadelphia and was a member of the National Honor Society before graduating from NPHS in 1974. She worked for many years as a teller and in other positions for both Huntington Bank and First Federal Bank in Dover and New Philadelphia. Later in life she worked as a crossing guard for the New Philadelphia City Schools.

A lifelong fan of the Cleveland Indians/Guardians, Cleveland Browns and Ohio State Buckeyes, Susan loved watching sports and would tune in to any televised football game from high school to the NFL.

But Susan valued family above all. A devoted and loving daughter and sister, she never married but came into her own as a special aunt to her nieces and nephew and their children. She never missed a game, party or other event. Her house was where family gathered for Sunday dinners, parties, holidays and everything in between.

“Aunt Doodoo” will be dearly missed by her niece Sara Destefani (daughter Alyce Douglas) of New Philadelphia; niece Beth Lewis, her husband Josh and their son Bryson of Dover; nephew David Destefani (Julie Frase) of New Philadelphia; niece Michelle Destefani (Jamal Gibbs) and daughters, Ava and Isla of Sterling Heights, MI; and niece Debra Destefani of Ann Arbor, MI.

 Preceded in death by her parents James P. and Mary H. (Buckohr) Destefani, Susan is also survived by her brothers Jerry (Mercy) of New Philadelphia and James (Jeanne Silag) of Simsbury, CT.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 23^rd starting at 11:00 am in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory at Dover with Rev. David Wing officiating.  Interment will be in the Sacred Heart Calvary Cemetery, New Philadelphia.  The family will be greeting friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 2:00 to 4:00 pm.
