Steven L. “Steve” Murphy, 64, of Dover passed away suddenly on Monday, December 6, 2021, at his home in Dover.
Steve was born in Barnesville, Ohio on December 11, 1956. He was the son of the late Robert and Doris Ray Murphy, who survives. He was also preceded in death by his mother and father-in-law, Joe and Judy Bosler, and his beloved dog, Buddy.
He graduated from Sandy Valley High School with the class of 1975. He attended classes at Kent State University.
He was currently working at the NAPA store in Sugarcreek but had worked at many other retail stores including Flynn Tire in Dover, Farm and Fleet in Dover, Petz Place in New Philadelphia, and the Hardware Store in Waynesburg.
Steve was a member at NewPointe Community Church in Dover. Cars were Steve’s passion. He knew all there was to know about them. He was recently working on restoring a 1939 Ford Coupe and a 1968 Chevelle. He enjoyed going to classic car shows, the Canfield Swap Meet, and judging the Atwood Car Show. He was very good at historical and musical trivia. Steve had a story for everything and loved social gatherings.
In addition to his mother, Doris, he is survived by his wife, Barbara Bosler Murphy, who he married on June 18, 1982. Steve and Barbara had three children; Stephanie (Chris) Bragg, Stacy (Mike) Gordon, and Steven “Greg” Murphy and his life partners, Johnathan Sargent and Josh Stillwagon all of Dover; grandchildren, Erick (Ashley) Beers, Elissa Sensbach Murphy, Caitlyn Bragg, Chelsie Bragg, Avery Gordon, Christian Gordon; great-granddaughter, Elena Beers; three sisters, Debbie (Marty) Jacoby of Sandyville, Brenda (Enzo) Bagnoli of N. Canton, Julie (Mike Bradford) Murphy of Sandyville; brother, Duane (Kim) Murphy of Mineral City; his grandmother, Luella Ray of Bethesda; along with his uncle, David Murphy of East Sparta; a niece and several nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. He also leaves behind his cats.
Friends are invited to call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory in Dover on Friday, December 10, 2021, from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm. A celebration of Steve’s life will take place at the funeral home on Saturday, December 11, 2021, at 10:30 am with Pastor Dwight Mason officiating. Burial will follow at Dover Burial Park.
