Steve T. "Georgie" Lane Jr.

December 3, 1953 — March 21, 2022

Steve T. “Georgie” Lane Jr., age 68, of North Canton (Jackson Township), and formerly of Uhrichsville, passed away Monday, March 21, 2022, in his sleep, at home, from complications of lung cancer.

Born December 3, 1953, in Ashland, he was a son of the late Steve T. and Grace Dale Wright Lane. Steve graduated from Claymont High School in 1972, and later went on to earn an associate’s degree in business management from Kent State University. He was trained as an EMT and worked for ambulance companies in the Twin City area. Steve was later employed by Burlington Coat Factory, and, for the last 22 years, by Home Depot, both Canton businesses.

He was a member of Canton’s St. Stephen Martyr Lutheran Church where he was a greeter and Eucharistic minister. Steve was a loving soul who will always be fondly remembered by his family and many dear friends – all of whom he loved to tease. He was blessed with a dry, quick-witted sense of humor.

Steve is survived by his partner of 48 years, John G. Horvath Jr., who will love him until they are once again reunited; his sisters, Linda Tinney of Uhrichsville, and Sandy McGarvey of New Philadelphia; his brother, James Whitacre; his sisters-in-law, Kathy J. Cox of Midvale, Christy L. Kelley of West Jordan, Utah, Kathy Marie Horvath of Asheville, North Carolina; his nieces and nephews, Jack, and Grace Eileen “Sissy” Tinney, Heather Burdette, Ryan and Jerrod Cox, Andrew, Logan and Sean Kelley, Kenneth Horvath and Brandy Devore; his many great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.

Besides his parents, Steve was preceded in death by his brother, Dale Whitacre; his grandparents, Jim and Blanche Wright; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, John G. and Mary M. Horvath; his brothers-in-law, Jack Tinney, David Horvath, Neil Cox and Michael Kelley.

In keeping with Steve’s wishes, there will be no calling hours; a private family service will be held in St. Stephen Martyr Lutheran Church. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Dennison.

Contributions in Steve’s memory may be made to St. Stephen Martyr Church, 4600 Fulton Dr. N.W., Canton, Ohio 44718.
