Sondra J. "Sonnie" Grove

Sondra J. “Sonnie” Grove, age 82, of Strasburg, passed away on Monday, October 27, 2025, in Canton's Aultman Hospital following a brief illness.

Born November 1, 1942, in Canton, she was the daughter of the late Carl and Jean (Eyster) Bauman. Sonnie graduated from Strasburg-Franklin High School in 1960 and pursued further education at Canton Actual Business College. She worked as a legal secretary and married Donald E. "Don" Grove on April 4, 1965. Sonnie found her true passion as a homemaker - a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a member of Strasburg First Lutheran Church and dedicated 26 years of her life to the church's preschool, where her fondness for children shone through.

Sonnie’s family was her treasure; they were always foremost in her heart. Her enthusiasm for their achievements was evident in her support, particularly as she followed her grandchildren's school and sporting events.

In her leisure time, Sonnie found happiness in camping, reading, and shopping. She enjoyed family vacations and annual trips to Myrtle Beach with her friends, creating cherished memories. Sonnie also had a special affection for all of her family's pets, further demonstrating her capacity for love and nurturing.

She is survived by her husband, Don; her children, Michael (Suzanne) Grove of Lebanon, Melissa (Terry) Sisson of Strasburg, and Mitchell (Meagan) Grove of Hilliard; her grandchildren, Erin (Michael) Wallace, Madison (Nicholas Miller) Burk, Sam Whisman, Lucas (Madisin Bryant) Burk, Avery Lyle, Kelsey (Tyler Anderson), Cameron, and Ryland Grove; her great-granddaughter, Oakley Anderson; her sisters, Pamela (Gary) Bixler and Deborah Neidenthal; and her nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, Sonnie was preceded in death by her sister, Sally Bauman.

Family and friends may call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home, 140 S. Bodmer Ave., Strasburg, on Friday, October 31, 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. A funeral service will follow at 1:30; Rev. Emily Crilley will officiate. Burial will be in Strasburg's Grandview Union Cemetery.

Sonnie's memory will remain in the hearts of those who loved her. Family, friends, and the community will miss her kind, warm spirit.
