Samuel G. Aston, 83, of Dover, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, January 30, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.
Born December 7, 1942, in Dover, he was a son of the late George and Dorothy (Dolvin) Aston. Sam was also preceded in death by his wife, Philomina “Phil” Aston on July 11, 2016; his brother, William Aston; sister, Charlene Chumney; and his niece, Denise Chumney.
He served in the United States Navy and was honorably discharged in 1964. Following his service, Sam went to work for Gordon Refrigeration in Dover. He later became the owner and continued in the business until his retirement in 2012 after 48 years. Sam was a longtime member of the Dover Eagles Club. He was an excellent pool player and competed in several leagues throughout the area. He also enjoyed bowling and trap shooting.
He is survived by his children, Michele (Harold) Dawson of Bolivar and Lynda Vernikoff of Colorado; step-children, Rae Ann (David) Antonelli, Bob Lang (companion, Liz Brown) both of Dover, April Herrington (companion, Tony Fantin), Denny Lang, Tina (John) Ford, all of New Philadelphia; grandchildren, Brooke (Derek) Shadd, Nicole Combs, Mikaela (Skylar) Trythall, Jacob Vernikoff; three great grandchildren, Kai and Luca Slagle and Ariston Shadd; and many step-grandchildren, step-great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
Cremation has been entrusted to the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory at Dover. The family will be receiving friends on Tuesday, February 3rd. at the funeral home from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm.
