Strasburg

Ruth Irene Dreher Frock, 90,  an exceptional nurse who dedicated her life to caring for others, passed away on Sunday, December 3, 2023, at the Park Village Health Care Center in Dover. Born on April 9, 1933, in Strasburg she was the daughter of the late Carl and Anna "Lois" Mizer Dreher.  Ruth was also preceded in death by her husband, Elden R. "Sonny" Frock on June 12, 2006; and her brothers, Mart and Bub Dreher.

Ruth began her nursing journey at Lakewood Hospital in 1955, where she embarked on a path that would span over four decades. In 1998, after 39 years of dedication, she retired from Mercy Medical Center as a Registered Nurse. For an astounding 20-plus years, Ruth served as a Charge Nurse on the night shift in the Emergency Room.

Not only did Ruth excel professionally, but she also created cherished memories outside of work. She delighted in many years of babysitting her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Their laughter and joy brought boundless happiness to Ruth's heart, serving as a testament to her enduring love for family.

Ruth's thirst for knowledge led her to pursue education consistently throughout her life. She graduated from Strasburg High School in 1951 before attending the Aultman School of Nursing. In January 1955, she successfully completed her board examinations to become a Registered Nurse—a significant milestone that marked the beginning of a lifelong commitment to healing and compassion. At the age of 59, she earned her Bachelor's degree from St. Joseph College in 1982.

Beyond the field of healthcare, Ruth found fulfillment through various hobbies and interests that enriched her life further. For ten years, she served as a Girl Scout Leader. Ruth was also an active member of multiple organizations including the Daughters of the American Revolution, Daughters of the American Colonists, and the Red Hat Society. August of 2011 marked an extraordinary milestone for Ruth when she realized a top item on her bucket list—a hot air balloon ride over Stark County in celebration of her birthday.

She is survived by her children: Susan (Rick) Edwards of Strasburg and Robert (Lisa) Frock of North Canton. Ruth's legacy extends to her grandchildren: Angela (Brooks) Stingle, Amy (James) Latsch, Dr.Danielle (Thomas) Frock-Welnak, Kayle (Mark) Vanderbilt, Sgt.Ethan (Monica) Frock. Her great-grandchildren include Gauge Stingel, Ian Latsch, Brynn Stingel, Noah Latsch, Rosalie Welnak, Caroline Welnak, Vivian Vanderbilt, Theodore Vanderbilt, Poppy Welnak, and Eloise Vanderbilt—each a testament to Ruth's enduring love and influence. Additionally, she is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Carolyn and Ruthie Dreher from Strasburg.

Cremation has been entrusted to the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory at Strasburg.  A celebration of Ruth's life will be held at a later date.
