Russell R. Hartline Jr., 85, of New Philadelphia, passed away Sunday, November 9, 2025, at JAG Healthcare Center in Orrville.
Born January 13, 1940 in Dover, he was the son of the late Russell Sr. and Irene (Roush) Hartline. Russell grew up on the family farm and never lost his love for it—raising beef cattle, dairy cows, and hogs alongside his dad remained one of his favorite memories.
He worked 40 years as a crane operator at the Timken Co. in Canton, retiring in 2000. Known for his easygoing nature, Russell genuinely enjoyed people and was quick with a kind word or a helping hand. He took special pride in being a grandpa, with granddaughter Chelsea holding an extra-soft spot in his heart.
He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Connie (Zurcher) Hartline, whom he married September 8, 1994; her children, Ed (Stacey) Mathews of Connecticut, Cindy (Tom) Mason of Newcomerstown, and Randy (Tara) Mathews of Missouri; his children, Jon (Cathy) Hartline of Dover, James (Faye) Hartline of Port Washington, and Kelly (Brad) Houze of Dover; brother Dwight Hartline of Massillon; sisters Carol (Gary) Sliffe of Strasburg and Nancy Palmer of Marysville; along with several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Judy Hartline on December 27, 1992; brother-in-law Donald Palmer; sister-in-law Diane Hartline; daughter in law, Marla Hartline and stepdaughter Susan Chitti.
Cremation has been entrusted to Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory in Dover. Graveside services will be held Friday, November 14, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at the Dover Burial Park, with Rev. David Wing officiating.
