Dover

Ronald H. Fondriest, 91, of Dover, and a beloved member of the community, passed away on Monday, September 18, 2023, at the Community Hospice Truman House. He was born on May 22, 1932, in Dover to the late James and Sybilla Franz Fondriest.

Ron was a dedicated individual who led a fulfilling life. After many years of hard work and dedication, he retired in 1997 from Greer Steel. Throughout his career, Ron showcased his strong work ethic and commitment to excellence.

One of Ron's standout qualities was his handiness. He possessed an exceptional talent for fixing just about anything and enjoyed working on cars as well as various projects around the house. His resourcefulness and knack for tinkering allowed him to approach obstacles with creativity and find innovative solutions.

A commendable aspect of Ron's life was his military service. He served as an Air Force Veteran during the Korean War, displaying courage and devotion to his country.

Regardless of the numerous accomplishments in his life, Ron often found solace in his dedication to his faith and community. A proud member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, he took on the role of the church's first Deacon and served faithfully for over 40 years. He was also the spiritual leader of the Secular Franciscans for many years. His deep-rooted love for children led him to help raise more than 250 foster children throughout his life.

Ron shared a remarkable bond with his loving wife, D. Sue Judy Fondriest. They spent 67 wonderful years together after their marriage on November 26, 1955. Their unwavering commitment to one another was an inspiration to all who knew them.

In addition to Sue, Ron is survived by children, Julie (Ron) Flickinger of Arizona, Ronald (Jill Yuen) Fondriest of New Philadelphia, Robert (Jennifer) Fondriest of Granville, Richard (Pam) Fondriest of North Carolina, Rodney (Dianna) Fondriest of Strasburg, and Judith (Jason) Abrecht of New Philadelphia. His legacy lives on through his 20 beloved grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren, who will forever cherish the memories and values he instilled in them.

Ron was also preceded in death by his siblings, J. Earl, Elden, Jean and Ervin Fondriest, Nadine Collins and Marian Karl.

Ron will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and the community he touched throughout his remarkable life. His generous spirit, strong work ethic, and unwavering faith leave an indelible mark on those fortunate enough to have known him. As we bid farewell to Ronald, let us remember the countless positive contributions he made to this world and be grateful for the chance to have shared in his journey.
