Ronald F. Bertle, 89, of Dover passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, June 30, 2025 surrounded by his loving family
Born on February 27, 1936 in New Philadelphia he was a son of the late John and Kathleen Mowrer Bertle. He was also preceded in death by his brothers in law, Bill Stallings and Ron Johnson.
He was a proud graduate of Dover High School in 1955. Ron demonstrated a profound sense of patriotism through his military service. He volunteered with the United States Navy, serving honorably aboard the USS Forrestal Aircraft Carrier during the Mediterranean Crisis from 1956 to 1958. Following his discharge, Ron embarked on a distinguished career at the Dover Municipal Light Plant, where he worked for over 33 years before retiring in 1997. He and his wife, Bev, shared a love for classic cars, particularly their cherished 1933 Ford. Together, they enjoyed attending car shows, where Ron's exceptional talent for restoring vintage automobiles shone brightly. His dedication to the craft earned him numerous awards and accolades, reflecting his meticulous attention to detail and deep appreciation for automotive history. Ron was also an avid reader, immersing himself in literature that complemented his love for cars. He spent his leisure time watching classic car shows and westerns.
Ron is survived by his wife of 66 years, Beverly Stallings Bertle whom he married on December 13, 1958; children, Shawn (DJ) Heaton, Heather (Von) Jones of Mason, Ohio; 11 grandchildren, Anthony, Mark (Laura), Kayla, Maria (Sean), Danny (Kelly),Katie (Alec), Harrison, Alex, Jacob, Savannah and Brody; seven great grandchildren; sister, Linda Johnson of Dover and sister in law, Cheryle Stallings also of Dover.
Cremation has been entrusted to the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory at Dover. A private graveside service will be held at the Dover Burial Park where the New Philadelphia VFW will conduct military graveside services.
