Robert Lynwood Sclater, 80, of Dover passed away on Thursday, October 14, 2021 in the Inn at Northwood Village, Dover.
Born on February 18, 1941 in Richmond, Virginia he was a son of the late Lynwood Chester Slater and Hilda McCraw Sclater. He graduated from Mullens High School and Concord University in West Virginia. Bob moved to the Dover area in 1964 and was employed at Belden Brick where he retired in 2007 after 34 years of service.
He was a faithful and active member of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church where he sang in the choir for many years, played the hand-bells and would volunteer his time wherever it was needed. Bob also enjoyed singing with the Tuscarawas Philharmonic Adult Chorus, especially Handel’s Messiah. He was also involved with the Boy Scouts as an Assistant Scout Master, Eagle Scout Committee Chair for the area district, and served as an EMT in the Sugarcreek area for many years.
Bob is survived by his wife of 55 years, Glenda Bowman Sclater whom he married on August 13, 1966; children, Mary Beth Sclater of Tennessee, Mark (Kerri) Sclater of Dover; sister, Anne Gail (Darrel) Campbell of North Carolina; two step-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and his grand puppies, Zoe, Jack and Bell.
Cremation has been entrusted to the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory at Dover. A service celebrating Bob’s life will be held on Monday, October 18 starting at 3:00 pm in the Grace Lutheran Church at Dover with Pastor Bonnie Grimaldi officiating. The family will be receiving friends at the church on Monday from 2:00 to 3:00 pm. Burial of the ashes will take place at a later date in the Magnolia Cemetery.
The family wishes to thank all of the nurses, aids and caregivers at the Inn at Northwood and Crossroads Hospice for all of their wonderful care Bob received during his illness.
