Robert L. McDonald, 86, of New Philadelphia passed away on Saturday, December 31, 2022 in the County Club Retirement Community.
He was born on March 14, 1936 in Magnolia, Ohio and was a son of the late Henry and Pearl Lanning McDonald. Robert was also preceded in death by his wife, Carol M. McDonald on January 29, 2018; and seven brothers and sisters.
He proudly served his country with the United States Air Force. Following his discharge, he found employment at Rees Cast Stone in Dover as a truck driver, a job he would have for the next 48 years. Robert enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, and taking road trips with Carol. He loved music, and was quite the dancer; Robert was also a fan of the Cleveland Indians and The Ohio State Buckeyes.
He is survived by his children, Cheryl (Perry) Beichel of Fresno, Robert L.McDonald II, Rhonda VanFossen, Beverly McDonald all of New Philadelphia; grandchildren, Devin McDonald, Korey Herron, Haven VanFossen, Kaylee Fowler, Karlotta Postlewait, Isaac Beichel; 11 great grandchildren; brother, Leonard McDonald of Beach City and sister, Ruth Harding White of Dover.
A service celebrating Robert’s life will be held on Friday, January 6th starting at 11:00 am in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory at Dover with Rev. David Wing officiating. Interment will be at the Ridgecrest Memory Gardens. The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 5-7 pm.
