Robert “Bob” Feutz, age 81, of Dover (Parral), passed away unexpectedly Saturday, March 23, 2024, at home.
Born June 1, 1942, in Dover, he was a son of the late Leon and Mary (Watkinson) Feutz. In his youth, Bob was one of the original six Dover Basketeers formed by George Elford in 1955. He went on to graduate from Dover High School in 1960, and soon afterward began an apprenticeship program with The Timken Company in Canton; he was employed by Timken for over 40 years, and retired in 2000 from a management position.
Bob married the former Patricia Jo Abrecht, who survives, on April 21, 1963, in St. John’s United Church of Christ, Dover. The couple would have celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary next month. Bob was a faithful member of St. John’s, and served on church council and as a deacon and trustee.
Bob gave freely of his time and talent, working with the Greater Dover-New Philadelphia Food Pantry and Mobile Meals of Dover-New Philadelphia. He was also active with Habitat for Humanity and was known as “Bob the Builder.” He was honored with the organization’s Golden Hammer Award, which is presented to those who have added value to their neighborhoods by restoring, constructing or enhancing properties in a way that contributes to their surroundings. Additionally, he served on the Parral Village Council.
Aside from his community work, Bob enjoyed Chevrolet automobiles, which he collected and restored, or otherwise worked on. His latest completed project was the restoration of a 1957 Bel Air convertible. Bob was a long-time member of the Vintage Chevrolet Club of America - Lake Erie (Ohio) Region, and he and Patricia enjoyed many biannual club tours across the United States.
Bob will be dearly missed by his wife, Patricia; his children, Todd Feutz of Parral, Bobbi Jo (John) Hrusovsky of Galena, and Jeff (Stephanie Norquest) of Magnolia; his grandchildren, Nate, Jarad and Jacob Hrusovsky, and Trevor and Alicia Feutz; his brother, John (Kathy Gordon) Feutz; his sister, Mary Lee (Jack) Blickensderfer; his nieces and nephews; and his many friends.
Besides his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his sisters, Nellie Stien and Patricia Sindlinger.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 6, at 2 p.m., in St. John’s United Church of Christ. There will be a reception in St. John’s Social Hall directly after the service.
The family suggests that, instead of flowers, contributions in Bob’s memory be made to St. John’s Educational Fund, 409 N. Wooster Ave., Dover, Ohio 44622.
