Richard L. “Dick” Hedington, 96, of Strasburg passed away on Thursday, November 20, 2025 in the Park Village Health Care Center at Dover.
He was born on May 18, 1929 in Keene, (Coshocton County) Ohio to the late John and Bessie Bechtol Hedington. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Robert Hedington who was killed over Germany on November 2, 1944 while serving with the US Eighth Air Force; and a sister, Beverly Wachtel.
Dick graduated from Millersburg High School with the class of 1947, and then joined the staff of the Citizens State Bank of Strasburg where he was employed for 40 years. He advanced through various positions, from teller to president. He also served on the bank’s board of directors for many years. During his time with the bank he attended the Ohio School of Consumer Credit at Kent State University, Mellon School of Banking in Pittsburgh, Kentucky School of Banking at the University of Kentucky, The Graduate School of Banking at the University of Wisconsin and various AIB courses. He was a past president of the former Strasburg Chamber of Commerce, clerk-treasurer of Franklin Township for 14 years, and for a brief period, was the treasurer of Strasburg Village Corporation. Dick attended the Strasburg United Methodist Church, served on the pastor-parish committee, church council, and was in charge of the ushers for more than 15 years. Following his retirement in 1986, Dick enjoyed traveling, working around the home with his wife, Delpha, and playing golf with his friends.
He is survived by his wife of 76 years, Delpha Calhoun Hedington whom he married on June 19, 1949; children, Thomas (Ann) Hedington of Kent, Ann (Tom) Burrier of Dover, Kay McNally of Florida; grandchildren, Sara (MItchell) Immel, Brett (Karla) Burrier, Kaitlin (Mark) McNally Fischer, Nathaniel and Richard Hedington; great grandchildren, Aidan and Ariana Immel, Evan and Gavin Burrier, and Kiera and Fiona McNally.
Cremation has been entrusted to the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory at Strasburg. There are no public services or calling hours.
