Richard J. “Dick” Grier Jr., age 68, of Uhrichsville, passed away Tuesday, November 11, 2025, Veteran’s Day, following a long illness.
Born March 8, 1957, in Pittsburgh, he was the son of Suzanne (Harrity) Grier Hoak of Alliance, and the late Richard J. Grier Sr. Dick graduated from East Liverpool High School in 1974, and went on to serve honorably with the United States Navy. Following his service time, he worked for over 40 years as an independent truck driver.
Dick was happy, warm-hearted, and kind. He cherished his granddaughters, whom he affectionately referred to as "Pappy's Angels." His love for them was evident to all who knew him.
He was a fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers, following their games with enthusiasm. Riding his motorcycle brought him joy and was a beloved pastime that allowed him to explore the open road and the beauty around him. Dick also had a keen interest in shooting, often visiting the gun range. He was a lover of classic westerns and had a particular fondness for the old television show "Gunsmoke."
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his children, Richard K. (Starr Santiago) Grier of Pottstown, Pennsylvania, and Kathryn L. “Katie” (Zach) McCalicher of Mohnton, Pennsylvania; his granddaughters, Grace, Hope, and Mercy; his companion of fifteen years, Krysal Wolfe; Mieshka Johnston and Jesse Chandler, Krystal's children, with whom Dick was very close; his brother, Thomas and Bill (Carol) Grier; his niece and nephew, Ashley and Brandan Grier.
Besides his father, Dick was preceded in death by his brother, Dan Grier.
He will be cremated through the care of the Toland Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, Dover. It was Dick’s wish to have a party at the end, and honoring his wish, his family is planning a celebration of his life in the not-too-distant future.
