Richard D. “Dick” Mears, 70, a longtime Dover resident, died Tuesday, June 28, 2005 in his home.
Born April 1, 1935 at Port Washington, he was the son of the late Homer & Lela Hollingsworth Mears.
He retired in 1996 from the Timken Company at New Philadelphia where he had worked faithfully for over 33 years.
Dick was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church.
He honorably served his country as a member of the Marine Corps during the Korean War, and was a member of the Marine Corps League of Tuscarawas County.
For many years, Dick held a pilot�(TM)s license and enjoyed flying away on day trips or even just flying to Columbus or Wheeling “for a cup of coffee.”
On July 25, 1964, he married the love of his life, Frances Damiene Mears, who survives.
Other survivors include: his brother, Sam (Anna) Mears, and sister Marilyn (Francis) Yarnell, both of New Philadelphia. Many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and even a great-great niece and a great-great nephew also survive.
In addition to his parents, Dick was preceded in death by his sister, Shirley Leggett.
A funeral mass will be held in celebration of Dick�(TM)s life on Friday, July 1, at 10:30 a.m. in the St. Joseph Catholic Church with Fr. Homer Blubaugh officiating. Members of the family may call in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, Dover, one-hour prior to mass.
Interment will be in the Calvary Cemetery at Dover. Following the burial, family and friends will be received at a reception held in the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center on the Boulevard.
There are no public calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to assist with the construction of St. Joseph�(TM)s new Family Life Center, 613 N. Tuscarawas Ave., Dover.
