Pauline H. Shumaker, age 96, of Dover, passed away on Friday, April 17, 2026 at Park Village in Dover.
Born August 2, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Weber and Iva (Balder) Weber Wilson. She grew up in the Sugarcreek-Dundee area, and attended schools in that district. On October 2, 1949, she married the late William Shumaker, and together they raised two sons, William and Gary.
Pauline enjoyed spending time with her family, babysitting her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, spending time outdoors, playing cards, and going to many family functions.
She enjoyed privately working for the Hennis family, and additionally was employed at Hennis Care Centre in Dover, where she was most known for being the head cook for twelve years. She retired after 33 years of service.
Pauline will be sadly missed by her family, including her sons, William (Teresa) Shumaker of Dover and Gary (Ellen) Shumaker of New Philadelphia; grandsons, Troy (Jessi) Shumaker, Gary (Wendy) Shumaker, and Chris (Jessica) Shumaker; great granddaughters, Rylie, Jade, and Kelly Shumaker; great grandsons, Nathan Shumaker and Dayton and Justice Hughes; and great-great granddaughter, Renlee June Morrison. She also leaves behind her sisters, Margret Fry of Strasburg and Wanda (Denny) Tonn of Massillon; as well as many special nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Pauline is preceded in death by her siblings, Arthur Weber, Joe Weber, Mildred La Port, Arlene Kandel, Grace Duke, Norma Angel, Ray Weber, and Glen Weber.
The family wishes to extend their sincere appreciation to the staff of Hennis Care Centre and Park Village for the wonderful care they’ve shown Pauline over the years. Donations in honor of Pauline may be made to Crossroad’s Hospice.
Friends are invited to call on Wednesday, April 22, 2026 at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home in Dover from 11:00 AM to 12:30. A service honoring Pauline’s life will begin at 12:30 with Pastor Tom Hendershot officiating. Interment will follow at Dover Burial Park.
