Pauline R. “Polly” Bergquist, age 92, of Dover, passed away Thursday, August 5, 2021, in the Walnut Hills Retirement Community, Walnut Creek.
Born July 7, 1929, in Dover, she was a daughter of the late Fred and Lieschen Ochs Leaders. Polly graduated from Dover High School in 1947, and, on October 21, 1950, married Robert G. “Bob” Bergquist. The couple resided in Virginia for many years, where Bob was employed in the automotive industry and Polly worked for GTE as an IBM keypunch operator - and later was involved in drafting for utility locations. She retired from GTE after 25 years of service. Foremost, Polly was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. Polly and Bob returned to Dover in 2006. Bob passed away on April 19, 2013.
Polly was a member of Dover’s Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church and the church’s Altar Guild. She also was a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star and belonged to the Tidewater Telephone Operators in Virginia.
She is survived by her three sons, Steven (Patsy) Bergquist of Churchton, Maryland, Randy (Adrienne) Bergquist of Naples, Florida, and Rick (Holly Giangiulio) Bergquist of Richmond, Virginia; her grandchildren, Tracy Holliday, Blair, Ryan (Katie), Megan and Karly Bergquist; her three great-grandchildren; and her four great-great-grandchildren; and her nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Bob, her sisters, Barbara Brod and Bette Andruscavage, and her brother, Dick Leaders, preceded Polly in death.
Family and friends are invited to call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover on Tuesday, August 10, 10 – 11 a.m. A funeral service will follow at 11 in the funeral home; Pastor Bonnie L. Grimaldi will officiate. Burial will be in Dover Burial Park. Following the committal, there will be a lunch in the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center on the Boulevard in Dover.
