Paul J. Lair, 79, of Canton died Monday, Jan. 3, 2022 following a period of declining health.
Born Sept. 17, 1942 in Canton, he was the son of the late Edward P. and Eleanor (Dallau) Lair. He was also preceded in death by a brother and sister in law Edward and Beverly Lair.
Paul began his five- year apprenticeship with Plumbers & Pipefitters Local Union #94 in 1963 and graduated to Journeyman in 1968. He was elected as a member of the Local Unions Finance Committee and served for many years in that position. He served on the Plumbers and Pipefitters Joint Apprenticeship Training Committee as a member and treasurer of the committee. He was elected to serve as a Trustee of the Unions Health, Welfare and Retirement Plans for many years having served as Secretary and Chairman until his passing. He was employed with Standard Plumbing and Heating Company for 35 years. He also worked for other various contractors. He served his Local Union for almost 58 years. He was always dedicated to making the lives of his Brother and Sister members and their families better.
Paul was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Canton and the Knights of Columbus. He was a 1961 graduate of Canton Central Catholic High School and he and his wife Patsy enjoyed spending their winters in Sarasota, Florida. He was also an avid golfer and enjoyed tending to his lawn. He especially loved his grandchildren and attending their school activities and sporting events.
Paul will be missed by his family including his wife, Patsy (Campbell) Lair; daughter, Colleen (Donald) Mascola of Boardman, Ohio and son, Ronald (Cynthia) Lair of Massillon; four grandchildren, Siman and Carter Mascola and Gabriella and Abigail Lair; a brother, Richard (Mariann) Lair and son, Michael of New Jersey; sister in law, Kathy (Doug) Pell of Edmond, Oklahoma and niece, Debbie Lair.
A Memorial Mass will be held Friday, Jan. 7, 2022 beginning at 11am in the St. Michael’s Catholic Church with Fr. Patrick Manning officiating. Friends and family will be received Thursday from 4-7pm in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, 140 S. Bodmer Ave., Strasburg, Ohio 44680.
