Meredith J. “Peck” Leavers, 78, of Midvale, died Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2004, in Morning View Care Center, New Philadelphia, following a brief illness.
Born Aug. 25, 1925, in Mount Eaton, he was a son of the late Olin and Esther Wagner Leavers. Peck attended school in New Cumberland, and served honorably in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a retired carpenter, having owned his own construction company. Peck was a member of the First Assembly of God, New Philadelphia. He was a hard-working man, who loved his family and his church.
Survivors include his wife, Gloria J. Courim Leavers, whom he wed Dec. 23, 1950, in Barnhill; a daughter, Cheryl (Delbert) Reynolds of Barnhill; three sons, James (companion, Sherrill Emery) Leavers of New Philadelphia, Paul (Tara) Leavers and Mark (Noreen) Leavers, both of Midvale; four grandchildren, Mike and Cole Leavers, and Jason and Jeremy Garrett; three great-grandchildren, Mike and Autumn Leavers, and Josh Angstrom; a sister, Mildred Fath of Wooster; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson and his wife, Chad and Kelly Leavers; two great-grandchildren, Taylor and Katawna Leavers; a sister, Fern Lake; and two brothers, Joseph and Don Leavers.
A funeral service celebrating Peck�(TM)s life will be held Saturday, Feb. 28, at 2:30 p.m., in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home, 246 E. High Ave., New Philadelphia. Pastor Larry D. Fletcher will officiate. Burial will be in New Cumberland Cemetery. Following the committal, there will be a reception in the First Assembly of God.
