Mathew Christopher Grinder, age 49, unexpectedly went on to be with our Lord on Sunday, October 12, 2025. He was the son of the late Nancy Urfer and Robert Grinder of New Philadelphia.
He attended school in New Philadelphia and grew up in a family of eight children. Matt was a very charismatic, fun-loving soul with quite an infectious sense of humor that anyone around him enjoyed.
Aside from being a huge Pittsburgh Steelers fan, Matt was also a talented musician, playing drums with several rock bands in the area over the years. He loved spending time with his dogs and grilling.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Lisa (Grinder) Burns.
Mathew leaves behind two brothers: Thomas and his wife, June Grinder of Dover, Rober Grinder of New Philadelphia; his sisters, Julia Grinder Chapman of Beach City, Heather Grinder of Strasburg, Amanda and her husband John Wenhardt of New Philadelphia, and Holly and her husband Brian Wood of Canton. He will also be missed by his nieces: Brittany Bell, Ashley Smith, Madison Willis, Chelsea Hamilton, Marah Robinson, Tiah Robinson; his nephews, Casey Winrod, Jonny and Maze Weinhardt, March Robinson, and Matt’s girlfriend, Sue Ash.
He was loved and will also be missed by his many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
No services will be held, but a celebration of life will be scheduled at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, if anyone would like, Mathew would appreciate donations to any animal shelter in the area. Sparing the lives of innocent…good souls. It would be a legacy we can all share. God bless!
