Mary A. Farthing

Mary A. Farthing, RN, 88, of Strasburg passed away on Tuesday, May 24, 2022 in the Walnut Hills Retirement Community.



She was born on December 5, 1933 in Dover and was the daughter of the late Maurice and Florence Yackey Huffman, RN. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Willis G. Farthing on August 24, 2014. Mary was a 1951 graduate of Strasburg High School and graduated as a Registered Nurse in 1954 from the Huron Road Hospital School of Nursing in Cleveland. Following graduation, she worked in the emergency rooms of several different hospitals in Cleveland, Florida and Virginia. Mary spent some time away from the medical community to raise her family and briefly worked as a correspondent for the Times-Reporter. When her children were older she resumed her nursing career at a local skilled nursing facility having retired in 1997 after 21 years of service. As an RN, she was considered the neighborhood “doctor,” who was always there to help with any cuts, bruises or even the removal of stitches. Mary enjoyed reading, playing cards and spending time with her canasta card club friends. She was also an avid sports fan who loved following her children and grandchildren with all of their sporting and school activities.



She is survived by her children, Lynn Farthing of Chicago, Bill (Jennifer) Farthing of Solon, Wanda (Bruce) Goedel, John (Heather) Farthing both of Strasburg; grandchildren, Josh, Jessica, Molly, Jacob, Joey, Amanda, Katie and Mary.



Private family graveside services will be held in the Grandview Union Cemetery, Strasburg. The Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory at Strasburg is handling arrangements.
