Marion C. Haines Sr.

Marion C. Haines Sr., age 92, of New Philadelphia, passed away Wednesday, April 19, 2023.

Born October 25, 1930, in Minerva, he was the son of the late Sheldon C. and Helen Krabill Haines. Marion graduated from Minerva High School in 1948 and went on to serve honorably with the United States Army during the Korean War. Following his discharge, he was employed by the Nationwide Life Insurance Co. from which he retired after many years of service. Marion wed the former Eva Hykes, who survives, on December 29, 1963; the couple have been married for 59 years.

Marion was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ, Dover; the New Philadelphia Elks Lodge; and a 70-year member of the Augusta Masonic Lodge, Minerva. In his spare time, he enjoyed gardening and being with his family.

In addition to his wife, Eva, Marion is survived by his children, Catherine (Rob) McCulloch of New Philadelphia, Barbara Wade of Sugarcreek, Marion (LeeAnn) Haines Jr. of New York, and Gary (Kirsten) Haines of Oregon; his seven grandchildren, Zoey and Zayn McCulloch, Dawson Wade, Alec, Gavin, Olivia and Hunter Haines.

Marion was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He had a gregarious personality, a quick wit and always had a story to share. He will be dearly missed.

Honoring his wishes, Marion will be cremated and the family will hold their own private time of remembrance.

The family requests that, instead of flowers, contributions in Marion’s memory be made to St. John’s United Church of Christ, 409 N. Wooster Ave., Dover, Ohio 44622.
