Margie Rupe, 97, of New Philadelphia passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 1 surrounded by her family.
Born on November 23, 1924, in Willowdell, Ohio, she was the daughter of Arthur and Merle Banks Kelch. She married Robert Rupe on August 11, 1946. Bob preceded her in death on April 21, 1987 as well as one son Jay on February 20, 2009. She was also preceded in death by her seven brothers and sisters and their spouses: Harold (Mary) Kelch, Homer (Myra) Kelch, Marcella (Ralph) Stiefel, Raymond (Naomi) Kelch, Joan (Frank) Hafer, Betty (William) Riegle, and Bobby (Charlene) Kelch.
Margie graduated from Versailles High School in 1942 and after lived and worked in Dayton, where she met Bob. They moved to New Philadelphia in 1960 and together raised three sons. She worked at General Electric for a number of years. A member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, she knitted prayer shawls, sewed comforters, was a member of WELCA, and helped mail their monthly “Messenger” newsletter.
She is survived by her sons Glen (Casey) Rupe and Neil (Barb) Rupe and daughter-in-law Linda Rupe; as well as her beloved grandchildren Robert (Cathy) Rupe, Colleen Munro (fiancé Jan Ramage), Ginger (Eric) Baum, Adam Rupe, Megan Rupe (fiancé Adam Genest), great-grandchildren Duncan Rupe, William (Katelyn) Rupe, Michael Rupe, Emily Baum (fiancé Adam Farabaugh), Eric Baum, and many nieces and nephews with whom she kept in regular touch.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, September 6, 2022, at 11:00 am at Emmanuel Lutheran Church. Friends can call one hour prior to the service at the church. Cremation is entrusted to Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory of Dover. Inurnment will be at a later date at East Ave Cemetery in New Philadelphia.
