Lynn D. Zehnder, age 78, of Strasburg, passed away unexpectedly at home on Tuesday, July 15, 2025.
Born December 19, 1946, in Dover, he was the son of the late Delbert D. and Erma (Reidenbach) Zehnder. Lynn graduated with the great class of 1964 from Strasburg-Franklin High School and went on to serve honorably in the United States Air Force, serving in Vietnam, Germany, and Turkey. He married the former Phoebe D. Gordon, who survives, on May 17, 1969. Lynn was employed by W.W. Williams in Akron, a Detroit Diesel distributor, from which he retired as parts manager after 30 years of service. In retirement, he gave of his time as a volunteer at Dover’s Union Hospital
Lynn was a member of Strasburg United Methodist Church, the Charles Hofer Post of the Strasburg American Legion, the Vietnam Veterans of America, and, when his daughters were in school, served as secretary-treasurer of the Strasburg Athletic Boosters.
Lynn was very family-oriented throughout his life. He always enjoyed family get-togethers and following his children’s and his grandchildren’s school and sporting events. Lynn liked visiting with his former classmates from Strasburg as well. Aside from work and family, some of Lynn’s favorite pastimes were playing golf, fishing, riding his motorcycle, and watching old movies.
In addition to his wife, Phoebe, he will be dearly missed by his daughters, Nicole (Harold) Arrowsmith of Sarasota, Florida, and Rachel (Craig) Howell of Fresno; his grandchildren, Steven, Nicholas, and Elizabeth Arrowsmith; his brothers and sister, Randy (Carolyn) and Martin Zehnder, and Tanya Jo Gritzan; his sisters-in-law, Debbie Gordon and Candace Marks; and his nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Jennifer Zehnder; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Theodore and Betty Goedel; and his brother-in-law, Ron Gritzan.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects and visit with the family at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home, 140 S. Bodmer Ave., Strasburg, on Saturday, August 2, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. A memorial service will follow at 12, officiated by Rev. Matthew Wald. Military rites will be observed, and a lunch will then be held in the funeral home’s reception area.
The family suggests that contributions in Lynn’s memory be made to the Strasburg United Methodist Church, 206 Second St. N.W., or the Strasburg Softball Alumni Scholarship, ℅ Strasburg Athletic Boosters, 140 N. Bodmer Ave., both addresses at Strasburg, Ohio 44680.
