Lura M. Brown, 90, of Dover, died Thursday, Aug. 1, 2002, in Park Village Health Care Center, Dover, following a brief illness.
Born Apr. 29, 1912, in Akron, she was a daughter of the late Emmet J. and Minnie Boner Pyers. Lura moved at a young age with her family to Millersburg, where she attended school. She married Lyman Valier Brown on Jan. 27, 1930, and the couple resided in the Massillon-Canton area. Lura was a loving homemaker; her family was her life. She was also employed by Sears, Roebuck & Co., Massillon, and the old Mercy Hospital, Canton. Lyman died in 1981, and, in 1987, Lura moved to Dover.
Lura was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, New Philadelphia, and Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 180, Canal Fulton.
Survivors include her son, Joel (Jo Ellen) Brown of Dover; three grandchildren, Theresa Mitchell of Torrance, CA, Christine (Arthur) Brown Frittelli of Lake Worth, FL, and Mark (Jill) Brown of Dover; five great-grandchildren, Paul Reed, Morgan Mitchell, Jordan and Dakota Brown, and Tyler Frittelli; nieces, Elaine Lowry of Las Cruces, NM, Iris Tinlin of Florida, Doris Adams of North Canton; nephews, Roy Brown of North Canton, Fayette Brown of California, and Jerald Parker of Creston, OH.
In addition to her husband, Lyman, she was preceded in death by a son, Fr. Richard J. Brown, and a sister, Katherine Close.
A funeral Mass will be held Monday, Aug. 5, 2002, at 10:30 a.m., in Trinity Episcopal Church, New Philadelphia. Fr. Paul C. Johansen will officiate. Immediately following the Mass, there will be a reception in the church hall. Burial will be Monday at 2 p.m. in Apple Creek Cemetery, Apple Creek. Visitation will be Sunday, Aug. 4, 2002, 6:30-9 p.m., in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home, Dover. The New Philadelphia chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star will conduct services Sunday, at 8:30 p.m., in the funeral home.
