Linda L. White

Jan 10, 1942 — Jul 5, 2026

Dayton, Ohio

Linda L. White, 84, of Dayton, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 5, 2026, at Ohio’s Hospice of Dayton.

Born on January 10, 1942, in Wheeling, WV, she was the only child of the late Amerigo Lewis and Edna (Carpenter) Cattabiani. Linda was also preceded in death by her infant daughter, Stacey Zechiel.

Linda grew up in a household of educators who were also active members of the First United Methodist Church in Dover, Ohio. A 1960 graduate of Dover High School, Linda earned her bachelor’s degree from Muskingum University and started teaching. She was a wife, loving mother and full-time teacher when she earned a Master's in Education from Ohio University. She dedicated her life to education, beginning her teaching career with the West Muskingum School District in Zanesville for ten years, followed by twenty years at M&M Elementary School in McConnelsville. She was patient, creative and dedicated to the children; she cared about their personal success and life struggles. After retiring from the classroom, she continued working in an administrative capacity, tutoring children and assisting teachers with proficiency testing. A passionate educator and lifelong learner, Linda found deep joy in both teaching and community outreach. For years she was actively involved with the Soroptimist Club in Zanesville where she served as president and generously volunteered her time for President Obama, working on his campaign. Linda had a great love for travel, whether for work or pleasure. She enjoyed Florida beach vacations, family trips to Michigan and Colorado, traveling with Soroptimist members to conferences, and was thrilled to experience Italy. She treasured time with her six grandchildren, who were the light of her life. As a grandparent, she was an interested listener, fond observer and cheerful supporter. Her warmth and caring, commitment to family, and lifelong learning will be remembered fondly by all who knew her.

Linda is survived by her children, Chad (Marda) Zechiel of Evergreen, Colorado and Dr. Kristy Zechiel and her husband, Dr. Timothy Peters of Dayton, Ohio; and her beloved grandchildren, Devin, Layton, and John Zechiel; and Eleanor, Julia, and Frances Peters.

Cremation has been entrusted to Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory in Dover. A celebration of Linda’s life will be held on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the Dover funeral home, with Pastor Matthew Wald officiating. Interment will follow at Dover Burial Park.
