Lawanda F. Seward

LaWanda F. Seward, 72, of Somerdale, died Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2009, in Aultman Hospital, Canton, following a brief illness.

Born, Aug. 15, 1936, in Dennison, LaWanda was a daughter of the late Worney and Amanda Rennicker Edwards. She graduated from Tuscarawas-Warwick High School, and, on Jul. 14, 1956, married Donald W. "Dutch" Seward at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, TX. She was a loving homemaker.

LaWanda worked for the Tuscarawas County Board of Elections for forty years. She enjoyed going to the Tuscarawas County Senior Center at Dover as well as the Senior Center at Mineral City. LaWanda and Dutch traveled extensively throughout the United States (including Alaska and Hawaii) and Canada. Other favorite pastimes included work on the family farm, gardening and boating. For many years, LaWanda and Dutch made and sold concrete flower pots at their home in Somerdale, and they very much liked to visit with the many people that that endeavor brought them in contact with.

Survivors include a daughter, Ann (husband, Ken) Egler of Dover; two sons, Samuel (companion, Belinda Watson) Seward of Somerdale, and Donald (wife, Mary Kay) Seward of Mineral City; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and her beloved Shetland Sheepdog, Marc.

In addition to her parents, LaWanda was preceded in death by her husband, Dutch, on Jun. 28, 2006; a brother, Worney Edwards, Jr., as well as two infant brothers.

A service celebrating her life will be held Saturday, Jan. 10, at 1:30 p.m., in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, 246 E. High Ave., New Philadelphia, with Pastor Chauncey Eggan officiating. Burial will be in East Avenue Cemetery, New Philadelphia.
