Kenneth E. "Ken" Lovett

February 25, 1933 — July 18, 2016

Kenneth E. "Ken" Lovett, age 83, of Dover, and a former resident of North Canton, passed away Monday, July 18, 2016, in Community Hospice House, New Philadelphia.

Born February 25, 1933, in Oconomowac, Wisconsin, he was a son of the late Edward and Hazel Thornton Lovett. Ken moved with his family at a young age to Ohio, and he graduated from Greentown High School in 1952. He was employed for a short time by the Republic Steel Co., Canton, and then entered the service of his country with the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. Ken made the Air Force a career, and during his service time he was selected to be part of the Air Force Honor Guard. He had proud memories of participating in presidential inaugurals, state funerals, as well as other formal governmental events. Following his time in the Air Force, Ken went to work for the Timken Roller Bearing Co. in Canton, from which he retired in 1990 as a supervisor.

Ken was a runner and was a member of the "100, 000 Mile Club" at the North Canton Y.M.C.A. He volunteered at New Cumberland School, reading to students, and giving presentations on the proper use and care of the American flag. He volunteered as well as a blacksmith in the Village of Zoar. Ken enjoyed farming and woodworking, and camping was another favorite pastime - in his younger days he hand-built a travel trailer and took his wife and children on a five-week vacation across the United States.

He will be dearly missed by his family, which includes his wife, Donna Shuck Lovett, with whom he celebrated sixty-three years of marriage this past June 27; his four sons, David (Pam) Lovett of North Canton, Louis (Doris) Lovett of Alliance, Ronald (Denise) Lovett of Strasburg, and Kenneth (Darlene) Lovett of East Canton; his daughter, Sharilyn (Jim) Barnhouse of Dover; his grandchildren, Matthew, Jessica, Chad (Lindsey), Jason, Stephanie and James Lovett, Jennifer (Dan) Messenger and Danielle Barnhouse; and his three great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Ken was preceded in death by his brother, Richard "Dick" Lovett.
