Karen L. Maize, 84, of Dover passed away on Friday, November 22, 2024 at the Park Village Health Care Center.
Born June 15, 1940 in Tunnelton, Pennsylvania she was a daughter of the late William and Frances Kern Johnson. Karen was also preceded in death by her husband, Ramon Maize on January 21, 2011; brother, Francis Johnson and a sister, Joyce Modrey.
Throughout her career, Karen worked tirelessly as a nurse’s aide at various nursing homes and excelled as a private duty home care aide. Among her proudest accomplishments was her steadfast care for her son David following his accident, a commitment that spanned over 30 years. Together, they traveled across the state, delivering impactful school assemblies that educated young people about the dangers of drugs and alcohol. This remarkable endeavor showcased not only her love for her son but also her desire to make a positive difference in the lives of others.
Karen was an active member of the former Foursquare Gospel Church in Dover, now the Summit Dover, where she served as a deaconess. She was also involved with the Rejoice Ladies Group and the Chemical Peoples Task Force, further demonstrating her dedication to service and advocacy.
She is survived by her sons, Alan Maize of New Philadelphia, Timothy (Chris) Maize of Dover, David Maize of Bolivar, and James (Ethel) Maize of Dover; grandchildren, Christian, Timothy, Matthew, Jacob, Jackie (Billy), Missy (Kyle), Kimmie, Kyle (Catelyn), Isabella, and Micah; great-grandchildren, Ella, Charli, Kacy, and Cohen, along with several nieces and nephews, and many "adopted" sons and daughters who viewed her as a mother figure.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 26th starting at 1:30 pm in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory at Dover with Pastor David Wing, and her daughter in law, Ethel Maize officiating. Interment will be in the Dover Burial Park. The family will be greeting friends at the funeral home on Monday from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
