Judith M. Hayes

Judith M. Hayes, age 80, of Dover, passed away Friday, May 16, 2025, in Dover’s Cleveland Clinic Union Hospital with her family by her side. Judith’s health had been in decline for some months.

Born March 21, 1945, the first day of spring, in Wana, West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Wesley E. and Hazel V. (Kennedy) Kent. Judith attended Clay-Battelle High School in Blacksville, West Virginia, and, on July 12, 1963, married William L. “Bill” Hayes. Shortly afterward, the couple moved to Tuscarawas County in Ohio. Judith and Bill raised four children and shared 39 years of marriage prior to Bill’s passing on July 30, 2002.

Judith was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was employed for over 40 years by Case Farms in Winesburg. Judith enjoyed gardening, sewing, crocheting and craftwork in her spare time.

She will be dearly missed by her children, Virginia (John) Goss of Dover, Lillie Hayes of West Lafayette, Wesley (Gina) Hayes of Dover, and Bill (Dawn) Hayes of Strasburg; her grandchildren, Heath Hayes, Aprile Hayes, Johnnie (Emma) Goss II, Kellie Goss, Briena (Joe) Battista, Miranda (Chase) Locker, William (April) Campbell and Jeffery Campbell; her fifteen great-grandchildren; her sister, Linda Tomago; her sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Martha and Sam Anderson; her nieces and nephews; and her companion, Goliath.

Besides her parents and her husband, Bill, Judith was preceded in death by her brother, Ernie Kent.

Family and friends are invited to call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover, on Wednesday, May 28, 5 - 7 p.m. A funeral service will be held Thursday, May 29, at 11 a.m., in the funeral home; Pastor Duane Wilbur of the Dundee Church of God will officiate. Burial will be Friday, May 30, at 1 p.m., in Wadestown Cemetery, Monongalia County, West Virginia.
