John F. Bender peacefully passed away surrounded by his loving family on January 22, 2022, from complications following a massive stroke. He is remembered as a man who wholeheartedly loved his family and God. He was confident in his salvation through Jesus Christ, and this gives his family comfort during their grief.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Audrey Bender and his only sibling, Ralphie Bender, as well as his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Bob and Katie Beasley and two nieces, Rachel Beasley Possert and Jillian Ann Calley.

John and his wife, Sally, would have celebrated 50 years of marriage this August. He excelled in his role as a loving and supportive dad to his daughters Jennifer (Andy) Brenneman of West Lafayette, Betsy Bender of Osaka, Japan, and Katie (Jon) Clemons of Cincinnati. He dearly loved his five grandchildren, Jacob and Evelyn Brenneman (Braeden Taylor) and Callie, Danny and Benny Clemons. He is also survived by brothers and sisters in law Tom (Debbie) Beasley, Joe (Colleen) Beasley and Susan (Ron Moss) Sekely and many nieces and nephews.

John was a proud member of the UA Local 495 Plumbers & Pipefitters out of Cambridge, Ohio, since his graduation in 1971 from Claymont High School. John also worked at Union Camp Chemical Corporation as a control room operator. Later, he returned to pipefitting where he achieved his instrument technician certification. This provided him the opportunity to work and travel throughout the United States. He made many friends during his travels and maintained these friendships through Facebook after his retirement in 2015.

John spent countless hours volunteering with the Greater Dover-New Philadelphia Food Pantry, where he also served on the board; Community Hospice in New Philadelphia; and served on the Planning Committee for the City of Dover until he moved to the Cincinnati area where he currently resided. In addition to his volunteer work, John also made the most of his retirement by traveling throughout the United States with Sally in their RV and by spending lots of time with his family.
John was an active member of the Dover Alliance Church. Most recently, he and Sally attended Sanctuary Church in Loveland, Ohio.
