John W. Emig, age 56, of Strasburg, died Wednesday, June 4, 2025, in Cleveland Clinic Akron General Hospital following a long, hard-fought illness. He is at rest now.
Born December 3, 1968, in Dover, John was the son of Linda K. Widder of Dover, and the late John H. Emig. He graduated from Garaway High School in Sugarcreek, and was employed by TBone Sales in Baltic where he worked in heavy truck and trailer repair.
John loved the outdoors, especially fishing, which he did year-round, as well as hunting and camping. He was a lifelong fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers - “Here We Go!”
In addition to his mother, he will be dearly missed by his wife, Debbie (Shetler) Emig, whom he married on December 4, 1998; his step-children, Tiffiny (Matt) Tharp of New Philadelphia, and Jeremy (Barb) Shetler of Jackson; his grandchildren, A.J., Grace and Kyler; his half-sister, Samantha (Ryan) Himes; his uncle, Larry (Patricia) Widder; his aunts, Molly Sexton and Mary Edwards; and his cousins and friends.
Besides his father, John was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Delbert and Caroline Widder; his paternal grandparents, Henry and Margaret Emig; his uncles and aunts, Cleone and Irene Widder, Jack and Geraldine Widder, Ben Widder, Dale and Nancy Goodmote, Dean Edwards and Homer Sexton; and his cousins, Barry and Jena Widder, and Rick Edwards.
Cremation is in the care of the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover. A memorial gathering is planned in the future.
