John Allen Anslow, 77, of New Philadelphia, Ohio, will be remembered by many throughout Tuscarawas County as one of the hardest-working, kindest, and most unforgettable people you could ever meet.
John was the youngest of twelve children born to the late Lawrence and Lula Belle (Aggin) Anslow.
He was preceded in death by seven brothers and three sisters. He is survived by his sister, Carol Stull; sister-in-law, Patricia Anslow; and many loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews, all of whom held a special place in his heart.
John began his working years at the old Puritan Laundry and later worked at Miller Studio. In later years, he created his own path by mowing lawns and collecting scrap. No matter his age or circumstances, John was always doing something. Sitting still was not in his nature. If there was work to be done, John was already halfway finished before anyone else got started.
To know John was to know laughter, kindness, and a man who truly never met a stranger. Many would recognize him riding through town on his adult tricycle, often pulling his lawn mower behind him, headed to help someone out or get another job done. His laugh could carry across town, and his smile made people feel welcome instantly.
John was truly one of Tuscarawas County's hidden gems. He loved his family deeply and was always there whenever someone needed help, no questions asked. He lived a simple life filled with hard work, generosity, humor, and heart.
A celebration of John's life will take place at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover on Friday, June 26, 2026, at 11:00 am with Pastor Kevin Anslow officiating. Friends can call from 10:00 to 11:00 am. Burial will follow at East Avenue Cemetery in New Philadelphia. A meal will be served at the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center following the service of committal. To sign an online guestbook for John, visit the obituary link on the funeral home's website.
The family hopes that when people remember John, they remember his determination, his laughter, his stories, and the way he could brighten a room - or a whole street - just by showing up.
