John A. Vlad, age 71, of New Philadelphia, passed away Wednesday, February 7, 2024, in Aultman Hospital, Canton, surrounded by his loving family, after battling leukemia and other cancers.
Born October 5, 1952, in Dover, he was the son of the late John and Joan (Cree) Vlad. John graduated from Dover High School in 1971, and, on September 12, 1973, married the former Sheryl Van Horn, who survives; the couple celebrated their 50th anniversary this past fall. John was first employed by Mason’s IGA Foodliner, then Marlowe’s Drug Store, The Times-Reporter, Perma Glas-Mesh, all of Dover, and finished his working career at Oak Pointe Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Baltic. He made many good friends in his life journey, and they meant a great deal to him.
John had a long-time love of rock and roll music and played the bass guitar with his buddies. In his younger days, he liked to go hiking and canoeing. John also liked watching football and basketball, particularly the Browns, most times, and the Cavaliers. And he especially enjoyed following his grandson’s school and sporting activities.
He will be dearly missed by his wife, Sheryl; his son and daughter-in-law, Brandon and Nicole Vlad; his grandson, Nolan Vlad; his sisters, Laurinda Gribble, Melanie Vlad and Valerie Mullen; as well as his nieces and nephews.
