Jo Elaine Newton, 73, of Strasburg passed away on Monday, November 6, 2023, in the Hennis Care Centre at Dover. She was born on August 6, 1950 in Massillon to the late Clarence and Eleanor Muehlheim Newton. Jo was also preceded in death by her brothers, Vic Gessner, Tom Newton and an infant brother, David Newton.
Jo dedicated 26 years of her life to Newton Asphalt, where she served as a scale master. Prior to her time at Newton Asphalt, Jo worked as a cosmetic specialist for renowned brands such Estee Lauder and Frances Denney. Jo ventured into entrepreneurship as the owner and operator of the Beach City Tavern. Her commitment to serving others extended beyond the walls of her own business when she selflessly assisted her sister at the Town House for many years. She attended the Strasburg United Methodist Church.
She treasured being an aunt to her many nieces and nephews and found great joy in spending quality time with them. Whether it was playing cards or simply cherishing each other's company during family gatherings, these moments brought immeasurable happiness to Jo's life.
She is survived by her siblings Gay Newton and George Gessner from Strasburg, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and even great-great-nieces and nephews. Her love and influence will continue to be felt through the generations of her beloved family.
A service celebrating Jo's life will be held on Saturday, November 11th starting at 11:00 am in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory at Strasburg with Pastor Jason Rissler and Pastor Matthew Wald officiating. Interment will be in the Grandview Union Cemetery at Strasburg. The family will be greeting friends at the Strasburg funeral home on Friday from 5-7 pm.
