Jill D. Lovett, 65, a lifelong resident of Dover, passed away following a sudden illness on Monday, October 6, 2025, at Cleveland Clinic, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, generosity, and service.
A 1979 graduate of Dover High School, Jill went on to attend The Ohio State University. Her life’s calling led her to serve as Pastor at the First United Church of Christ in New Philadelphia, where she ministered for many years with compassion and commitment. Her most cherished contributions were the church youth group and hosting Thursday Lunches at the church—welcoming all from the community with a warm meal and even warmer hospitality.
Jill had a deep love for her family and found great joy in supporting them, especially by attending their activities. She also loved to travel, with the beach being one of her favorite destinations. Charleston was a particular favorite, where she loved discovering new restaurants and dishes—an extension of her love for cooking and trying new things.
Those who knew Jill will remember her for her selfless spirit, her open door, and her abundant generosity. Whether through her ministry, her kitchen, or simply her presence, Jill gave of herself fully and freely.
In addition to her father, Carl, she leaves behind her husband, Gary Lovett, whom she married on July 28, 1984; her daughters, Rachael (Adam) Friley of Dover, Sarah (Clint) Muir of Dover, Alex Lovett of Dover; her grandchildren, Emma Filey, Liam and Brynna Muir; her brother, Steve (Mary) Pissocra of Matthews, NC; sister, Lynda (Chris) Hutras of Granville, Oh; her brother in-law, Curtis Lamp of Caldwell; along with many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Marilyn; granddaughter, Ella Catherine Friley; father and mother in-law, Richard D. and Norma J. Lovett; along with her sister in-law, Diana L. Lamp.
A memorial service will be held at the First United Church of Christ in New Philadelphia on Saturday, October 11, 2025 at 11:30 am with Rev. Elena Larssen officiating. Friends are invited to gather from 10:30-11:30 am. A meal will be served in the church fellowship hall following the service. To sign an online guestbook for Jill, visit the obituary link on the funeral home’s website.
Her family suggests that instead of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the First United Church of Christ, PO Box 422, New Philadelphia, Ohio 44663.
She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all those whose lives she touched.
