Jeffrey L. Hinds

May 5, 1957 — Sep 1, 2026

Jeffrey L. Hinds, 69, of New Philadelphia, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, at Union Hospital in Dover.

Born May 5, 1957, in Dover, Jeffrey was the son of the late Jack E. Hinds and Lois M. (Slabaugh) Hinds. He was a 1975 graduate of New Philadelphia High School and later graduated from Kent State University, where he earned his BA in Accounting.

On August 23, 1980, Jeffrey married the love of his life, Joyce Lagatta. They recently celebrated 46 years of marriage. Together, they built a life filled with family, hard work, adventure and countless memories.

Jeffrey was a man of many talents and interests. His earliest employment was as a salesman for both Men's Clothing (Allen Warrens) and automobiles (Parkway Datsun). After Jeff and Joyce moved to Columbus, OH, he then worked as an Auditor for the State of Ohio, Franchise Tax Department where he traveled from coast to coast to audit the top 500 corporations that did business in Ohio. He later owned Hinds Performance Motor Sports, his pride and joy, in Columbus for 20 years. After moving the family to California, Jeff then worked for Marshall's Distributing where he sold parts and accessories to the motorcycle dealerships. His work in motorsport sales provided Jeffrey and Joyce the opportunity to travel extensively, something they both truly enjoyed. Their travels took them around the world, including Spain, Puerto Rico, Italy, England, Egypt, Budapest, Japan, China, Australia and many other destinations.

A lifelong motorcycle enthusiast, Jeffrey loved anything with a motor. His passion for motorcycles and racing led to an accomplished career in vintage road racing, where he proudly held two national titles in AHRMA Vintage Superbike Road Racing. For Jeffrey, motorsports were more than a hobby-they were a passion that brought him friendships, adventures and memories that he cherished throughout his life.

Jeffrey was also a talented cook who took great pride in preparing food for family and friends. One of his special accomplishments was making the food for his son's wedding, creating a memorable celebration through something he loved to do.

He will be deeply missed by his wife, Joyce; his son, Maxwell (Sara) Hinds of New Philadelphia; step-grandchildren, Olivia (Daniel) Yeates and Victoria Dixon; and his four beloved Pomeranians, including his special sidekick, "Tut."

In addition to his parents, Jeffrey was preceded in death by his brother, Jack A. Hinds, and sister, Diane (Jim) Furniss.

Jeffrey will be remembered for his adventurous spirit, his love of motorcycles and anything mechanical, his culinary talents, his dedication to his family, and the many lives he touched along the way. His sudden passing leaves a profound void in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

Cremation has been entrusted to Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover. A memorial service is pending.
