Jay E. Huff, age 84, passed away on Monday, February 2, 2026, at Hennis Care Center in Bolivar.
He was born on July 19, 1941, in Franklin, Pennsylvania, and was the son of the late Frank Leon and Leona (Whitman) Huff. Jay was a 1958 graduate of Rocky Grove High School.
Jay proudly served his country in the United States Army. During his service, he earned the Sharpshooter Badge (Carbine M-2), the Expert Badge (Rifle M-14), and the Good Conduct Medal.
On May 31, 1968, he married Kay Davis. Together they shared a loving marriage and were looking forward to celebrating their 57th wedding anniversary.
Jay retired from Red Head Brass in Shreve, Ohio, in 2009. Over the years, he also dedicated his time and talents as a caretaker for Camp Wanake, in Beach City, Ohio, and served as the caretaker director at Camp Aldersgate in Brantingham, New York. In addition, he owned James Lumberyard in Franklin, Pennsylvania.
A man of many interests, Jay loved cooking, woodworking, hunting, fishing, coin collecting, and gardening. He enjoyed bird watching and spending time outdoors. Above all, spending time with his family was his most important thing to him.
Jay was an active member of St. John United Church of Christ in Strasburg, where he enjoyed helping with the Tiger Paw Pack Program. He also enjoyed helping with the My Town Strasburg program. He also served his community as a member of the Brewster City Council and was a lifetime member of the Rocky Grove Volunteer Fire Department.
In addition to his wife, Kay, he will be greatly missed missed by his children; missed by his children; Cheryl (Christopher) Klein of Durham, North Carolina, Frank (Barb) Huff of Dover, Ohio and Jon (Brooke) Huff of Navarre, Ohio; his grandchildren, Andrew (Elaina) Huff, Jaylynn (Alex) Huff, Jocelyn (Jacob) Huff, Trenton Huff, Carly (Jake) Boggs, Aryah Ramey, and Nora Kay Huff; two great grandchildren, Poppy Christmas, and Ivy Boggs; along with his sisters, Gloria Cook, and Twyla Spencer.
He was preceded in death by his siblings: Willis Huff, Dorothy Ross, Darlene Huff, and Edward Huff.
A memorial service will be held at St. John United Church of Christ in Strasburg on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, at 4:00 pm with Pastor Jason Rissler officiating. Friends can call at the church from 2:00-4:00 pm before the service. A meal will be served following the service in the social hall.
