James William Schumacher (Schu), 67, of Dover, Ohio passed away at his family home after a short but courageous battle with cancer on December 12, 2021.
Dover born and raised, Jim graduated from Dover High School in 1973, then after attending The Ohio State University, returned to Dover where he worked for twenty-five years as an accountant for A W Tipka Oil & Gas. His meticulous record-keeping followed him well after his retirement.
Jim was an active member of the St. John’s United Church of Christ and felt deep remorse anytime he could not physically attend services. Unquestionably Jim’s proudest accomplishment was his family, and those relationships only strengthened as his disease progressed. Having the vulnerability to say “I love you” and to hear it back was very comforting to Jim in his final days. When Jim wasn’t spending time with family, he could be found taking walks, gardening, or trying to hook catfish with his buddies.
Jim is preceded in death by his parents Edward William (Bill) and Marjorie.
He is survived by his former wife of thirty-six years, Melissa, their three children, William (and wife Sarah Dawn) Schumacher, Seth Schumacher, and Sarah Lynn Schumacher (and fiancé Steven). He also leaves behind three amazing grandchildren who were the apple of his eye, Alivia Dawn, Karli Jo, and Clay William Schumacher. Finally, Jim is survived by his two sisters, Shari and Marianne Schumacher, who graciously helped him on a daily basis.
At Jim’s request, there will be no calling hours and only a small service for immediate family members will be held. The Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover are handling the arrangements. To sign an online guestbook for Jim, visit the obituary link on the funeral home's website.
