James W. ''Pete'' Edwards

James W. ''Pete'' Edwards, 77, of Dover, Ohio died Tuesday, December 17, 2002 in the Cleveland Clinic following a 6 month illness.

Pete was a retired family partner in the former Edwards Trucking Co. in Strasburg for over 50 years.

Born January 18, 1925 in Cambridge, Kansas, he was the son of the late John and Mae Westbrook Edwards.

He was a Life Member of the Dover Elks Lodge, member of the Dover VFW, and was a 1943 graduate of Dover High School. He served in the US Navy during World War II aboard the USS Santee. He was an avid golfer.

Pete was preceded in death by his wife Maryella Diefenbacher Edwards who died Nov. 24, 1994.

He is survived by four children; Jim (May) Edwards of Fernandina Beach, Florida, Linda (Steve) Sherer of New Philadelphia, Dan (Mardi) Edwards of North Canton, and Sandy Demattio of New Philadelphia; Nine grandchildren Keith (Erin) Edwards, Rich (Tricia) Norman Jr., Michele (Mike) Giffen, Stephanie (Doug) Miles, Ryan Sherer, J.D. and Jared Edwards, and Jordan and Amanda Demattio. Five great grandchildren Macy and Mitchell Giffen, Anna and Holly Edwards, and Gabryella Miles. One brother, John “Red” (Dorothy) Edwards of Dover and one sister, Virginia “Tootie” Wilcoxon of Dover; a sister in law Carol Edwards of Strasburg and several nieces and nephews.

Pete was preceded in death by a brother, Dave “Bub” Edwards.

Funeral Services will be held Friday, December 20, 2002 at 10 am in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home at Dover with Rev. James Scott officiating. Cremation will follow services. A reception will follow in the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center. Friends may call at the funeral home Thursday from 5-8 pm with Elks services Thursday at 4:45 pm.
