James P. Snyder

March 16, 1942 — July 14, 2022

James P. “Jim” Snyder, age 80, of Dover, passed away Thursday, July 14, 2022, in Community Hospice Truman House, New Philadelphia, from complications following a recent stroke.

Born March 16, 1942, in Dover, he was the son of the late Joseph and Marjorie Meiser Snyder. Jim graduated from Dover’s St. Joseph High School, and went on to serve honorably with the United States Army as a paratrooper, stationed in Fort Campbell, Kentucky. He married the former Dolores Hostetler on July 26, 1961; the couple had two sons and shared 36 years together prior to Dolores’ passing on August 30, 1997. Jim was a long-time machinist for Sparta Manufacturing in Columbia.

He enjoyed trips to Daytona Beach, Florida, and, in his younger days, motorcycle riding and boating.

Jim is survived by his sons, Mark A. Snyder of Uhrichsville, and James M. “Jim” (Mega) Snyder of New Philadelphia; his grandchildren, Matthew, Steph, Keisha, Krystal, Michael and Brandon Snyder; his great-grandchildren, Oscar Snyder, Makayla Tolotti,Kadyn Blackwell and Leeland Snyder; his sisters, Norma Jean (Don) Leggett and Elizabeth “Cookie” (Fred) Devore; and his nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and his wife, Dolores, Jim was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Raven Snyder

A private funeral service will be held in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, Dover; Fr. Jeff Coning of Sacred Heart Church in New Philadelphia will officiate. Burial will follow in Dover Burial Park, where Carl C. Stoller Post 1445 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Sugarcreek Post 494 of the American Legion will provide military rites.

The family suggests that contributions in Jim’s memory be made to Community Hospice, 716 Commercial Ave. S.W., New Philadelphia, Ohio 44663.
