James E. "Jim" Breitenstein

November 27, 1933 — March 20, 2022

James E. “Jim” Breitenstein, 88, of Dover passed away on Sunday, March 20, 2022, at the Community Hospice Truman House.

Born on November 27, 1933, in Dover, he was the son of the late Eugene and Bertha (Horn) Breitenstein.

Jim honorably served our country in the United States Army where he was stationed in Frankfurt, Germany for two years. He retired from Gradall in 1997 after 40 years of service. His nickname at Gradall was “Jaybee.” Jim worked as a Parts Manual Analyst. He was always great with numbers.

He attended St. John United Church of Christ in Dover. Jim had a phone at every seat, and a tv in every room, and he never wore a shirt without a pocket. If you saw Jim, he always had a new joke to share.

On June 14, 1957 he married the love of his life, Matilda “Tillie” Young. The couple would have celebrated 65 years of marriage this coming June. He was a very devoted husband, father and grandfather and great-grandfather. In addition to Tillie, he leaves behind his two daughters; Jayne Pershing, and Julie (Eric) Walters; two grandsons who were named after him, Alick Eugene (Danelle) Green, and Travis James Green (fiance, Chealsey); great-grandchildren, Zoeii, Josie, Brystol, Memphis, and Mason; four step-great-grandchildren, Gracie, Aliyah, Hoyt, and Sadie; and his canine companion, Buddy.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Margaret (Jim) Page, brothers, Richard and Robert Breitenstein; and his son in-law, John Pershing.

A graveside service will be held at the Mausoleum at Dover Burial Park on Wednesday, March 23, 2022 at 1:00 pm with Pastor Dotty Hartzell officiating. The New Philadelphia VFW will conduct military honors. To sign an online guestbook for Jim, visit the obituary link on the funeral home’s website.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Community Hospice Truman House, 716 Commercial Ave SW, New Philadelphia, Ohio 44663 or a charity of the donor’s choice.
