James R. “Jim” Dessecker, 87, of Dover, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 21, 2025. He was born on July 13, 1938, to the late Byron and Dorothy (Weldon) Dessecker.

James was a 1956 graduate of Dover High School and spent 33 years working at American Electric Power (AEP), from which he retired. He was also a proud member of the Ohio Power Retirees.

On October 6, 1957, Jim married Joyce Maus, and together they shared a life filled with love, adventure, and shared passions. They spent many winters in Florida, enjoying the warmth and the simple pleasures of life. Jim loved to travel and explore new places, always eager to experience the world with Joyce by his side.

A man of many talents, Jim found joy in restoring boats and working on Cub Cadet tractors in his spare time. His meticulous craftsmanship and dedication to his hobbies were a testament to his character. His love of cars started at a young age and continued throughout his life, especially for Ford Mustangs.

Jim was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, and his memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends. He is survived by his loving wife, Joyce; his children; Richard (Kay) Dessecker of Dover, Deb (Mike) West of Dover, and Tricia (John) Frank of Akron; his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Abbie (Chip) Patterson and their children, Max and Annie; Kelie (Kyle) Ward and their children, Keegan and Kennedy; Katera (Dan) Welfley and their children, Jackson and Owen; Kristen (Clete) Hensel and their children, Brant and Ross; Miranda (Jordon) Richardson, and their children, Camden James and Elliana; Conner (Jon) Weick; Caleb Frank (Fiance, Katharine Soper); along with his beloved dog, Jessie.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his Father and mother-in-law, Dale and Dorothy Maus.

In honoring Jim’s wishes, cremation has been entrusted to the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover. A private service will be held for his family. To sign an online guestbook for James, visit the obituary link on the funeral home’s website.
