James L. Carney Jr., 77, of Dover, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 20, 2025 at New Dawn Retirement Center in Dover.
Born March 29, 1948, in Dover, he was a son of the late James L. Sr. and Ruth (Brobst) Carney. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Kathy Chenevey.
Jim served honorably in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. After his discharge, he built a long and respected career as a skilled cabinet maker, beginning with Geiser and Kappeler in Dover and retiring from Meese Cabinet Shop in New Philadelphia after many years of dedicated service. Known for his warm, outgoing personality and generous heart, Jim found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He loved being outdoors and especially enjoyed his time fishing.
Surviving are his brother, Tom (Deb) Carney of Dennison; and several nieces and nephews, including Amanda, Ivie, Loren, Jacob, and Jessica.
Cremation has been entrusted to Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, Dover. Interment of Jim’s ashes will take place at a later date.
